Jigsaw (Bury) & Special Olympics Bury
Special Olympics Bury is an independent branch of the national Special Olympics organisation. The Bury branch is run and managed in partnership with Jigsaw (Bury), a registered charity providing sports and social activities for young disabled people, with a joining age of 13.
While the majority of Special Olympics branches are competition-oriented, the aim of the partnership with Jigsaw is for access to sport to be widened. All our sessions are inclusive and cater to all abilities, and for all service users with learning difficulties, physical disabilities, and sensory impairments, as we support our members to reach their sporting potential and to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
We also participate in local, regional and national sporting competitions, if funding can be secured.
Special Olympics GB Ambassador
On Thursday 10th November 2022, Special Olympics Bury were invited to meet Special Olympics Great Britain ambassador, Jack Grealish, at Manchester City Football Academy. 4 athletes from Special Olympics Bury attended along with supporting staff members. The group watched Manchester City players train. Everyone had a fantastic day and felt very lucky to be involved. Thank you to Special Olympics & Jack for the opportunity - we have memories to last a lifetime!
